Senior Backend Engineer – Mobility

M-KOPA is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their team, focusing on building impactful event-driven microservices. Engineers at M-KOPA are responsible for their solutions from architecture to production monitoring, combining advanced .NET development with a mission to foster digital and financial inclusion in Africa. The technical environment includes C#/.NET, Azure (with experience in AWS or GCP welcomed), event-driven microservices using Service Bus (or Kafka/RabbitMQ), Kubernetes, Docker, Prometheus, and Grafana. The engineering culture emphasizes DevOps, infrastructure as code, automated testing across all environments, continuous delivery, and the use of AI coding tools like Claude Code. Engineers are expected to be collaborative, with senior members coaching and contributing to high-quality output, robust observability, comprehensive automated testing, and strong DevOps practices.

1. Develop sophisticated event-driven microservices with real-world impact.
2. Own solutions end-to-end, from architectural decisions to production monitoring.
3. Coach and contribute to high-quality output within the team.
4. Ensure robust observability and monitoring for all systems.
5. Implement automated testing across all environments, including production.
6. Practice infrastructure as code and embrace DevOps principles.

1. Strong proficiency in C# .NET development.
2. Proven experience with event-driven systems, such as Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
3. Solid experience in microservices architecture.
4. Familiarity with Azure or other major cloud providers like AWS or GCP.
5. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools, specifically Kubernetes and Docker.
6. Proficiency in observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
7. Expertise in testing and deployment strategies.
8. A strong DevOps culture mindset.
9. Experience utilizing AI coding tools, ideally Claude Code or similar.
10. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
11. Bachelor's Degree qualification.
