Job Description
The primary goal of this Senior Marketing Officer role is to establish and lead the SACCO’s marketing department, directly contributing to its overall growth targets. The position encompasses a blend of strategic marketing planning, business development efforts, brand management, and communication responsibilities, requiring practical execution skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an annual marketing and business development plan aligned with the SACCO’s strategic goals.
- Translate strategic growth objectives into measurable marketing initiatives.
- Create strategies to attract new members and strengthen relationships with existing ones.
- Support the growth of deposits, savings, lending, investments, and other approved SACCO products and services.
- Identify new market segments, member groups, institutions, employers, and strategic partnership opportunities.
- Conduct market intelligence, competitor analysis, and monitor emerging trends in the SACCO and financial services sectors.
- Advise management on product positioning, differentiation, and market expansion opportunities.
- Establish measurable marketing targets and monitor performance against key performance indicators.
- Develop and maintain a strong, consistent SACCO brand identity.
- Ensure consistency in the use of the SACCO’s corporate identity, messaging, and communication materials.
- Increase the SACCO’s visibility and reputation within Nairobi and other target markets.
- Develop campaigns that clearly and professionally communicate the SACCO’s value proposition.
- Develop and manage the SACCO’s social media and digital marketing strategy.
- Manage official social media channels, ensuring regular, relevant, and professional content.
- Develop digital campaigns for member acquisition, engagement, and retention.
- Monitor social media performance, engagement, and reach.
- Respond appropriately to public engagement and escalate complaints or sensitive matters through proper channels.
- Stay updated on emerging digital marketing platforms, tools, and technologies.
- Coordinate and, where appropriate, personally undertake the design and production of promotional materials like posters, brochures, and flyers.
- Produce digital advertisements, social media graphics, corporate presentations, and marketing content.
- Develop campaign materials for SACCO products and services.
- Prepare member communication and promotional content.
- Coordinate photography, video, and other visual content, including using external service providers when specialist expertise is needed.
- Support the planning and execution of AGM, member education, marketing, recruitment, and promotional events.
- Develop campaigns and activities to improve member engagement.
- Support member acquisition initiatives in workplaces, institutions, professional groups, and other target markets.
- Promote financial literacy and awareness of the SACCO’s products and services.
- Establish appropriate marketing metrics and dashboards.
- Track customer/member acquisition, campaign performance, engagement, and conversion.
- Prepare periodic marketing performance reports for the CEO and Board.
- Use data and market feedback to improve marketing effectiveness and return on investment.
- Maintain an appropriate marketing database and records.
- Monitor the SACCO’s online reputation.
- Support timely and appropriate communication with members and prospective members.
- Coordinate with management on public-facing communications.
- Ensure marketing communications comply with applicable laws, regulations, and SACCO policies, including consumer and data protection requirements.
- Support management in business development initiatives.
- Participate in strategic planning and implementation activities.
- Develop and maintain appropriate marketing policies, procedures, and operating plans.
- Advise the CEO on emerging marketing opportunities and risks.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably assigned by the CEO.
Requirements
- A relevant degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications in marketing or a related discipline are an added advantage.
- At least five years of experience in marketing, preferably within a SACCO, Co-operative, bank, microfinance institution, fintech, or other financial services environment.
- Demonstrable experience in digital marketing and social media management.
- Practical competence in graphic design and content creation tools.
- Experience developing and implementing marketing campaigns.
- Strong business development and customer/member acquisition skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical and reporting capabilities.
- Knowledge of the Kenyan financial services/Co-operative sector and its operating environment.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the marketing function.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship-management skills.
- Creativity, initiative, and commercial awareness.
- Ability to work with limited supervision while maintaining appropriate accountability.
- High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- A demonstrable record of achieving measurable marketing or business growth results.
