Design Engineer

The Safal Group, founded in 1958, is involved in manufacturing. Safal Building Systems Ltd, a part of the group, specializes in steel structural design and building systems.

Main purpose of the position: Collaborate with sales team for scope details of new enquiries and final details of confimed jobs. Design Steel Framed Structures for a diverse range of applications using latest and available Technology in Structural Design & analysis. Specify in the design process the appropriate materials based on structural specifications and codes of practice. Liaise with detailers in the preparation of drawings for internal & external use.

1. Meet departmental KPIs like Material efficiency (Kg/m2 ), design efficiency (hrs/design, designs/day) & design errors (% of order) as required.
2. Meet required design timelines as agreed with the line managers to ensure customer expectations are met.
3. Collaborate with sales team for scope details of new enquiries and final details of confirmed jobs
4. Design Steel Framed Structures for a diverse range of applications using latest and available Technology in Structural Design & analysis.
5. Generate accurate bill of materials for pricing purposes.
6. Specify in the design process the appropriate materials based on structural specifications and codes of practice.
7. Generate complete design calculations/analysis reports for all confirmed jobs.
8. Liaise with detailers in the preparation of drawings for internal & external use.
9. Check details on drawings to ensure compliance with all design specifications.
10. Do random quality checks/inspection for jobs under fabrication whenever required
11. Take part in the coaching and training of the new recruits in the department to ensure continuous improvement.
12. Any other related/relevant duties as shall be assigned.

1. Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a reputable institution.
2. Computer Literacy (MS Office)
3. Experience in the functional use of design spreadsheets and Computer Aided Design Software e.g AutoCad, Prokon, Materseries & StaadPro.
4. 2 – 3 years of working experience in Structural Designs and related projects.
