Laparoscopic Skills Lab Operations Officer

The Laparoscopic Skills Lab Operations Officer is responsible for the comprehensive management of the skills laboratory. This includes overseeing access control and security, maintaining a detailed inventory of all equipment and consumables, and coordinating necessary repairs and preventive maintenance. The officer will also manage the laboratory's schedule, prepare for training sessions and workshops, and support off-site projects. A key aspect of the role involves maintaining accurate attendance and training records, including the proper handling and storage of training videos and learner progress data. The officer ensures adherence to hospital policies regarding infection prevention, specimen handling, and overall laboratory cleanliness. They also provide essential support to learners and faculty, orienting participants to the LAPP program, offering constructive feedback based on training observations, and collecting user feedback for continuous improvement. Regular reporting on lab activities, progress, and any operational issues to the Medical Education Programs Coordinator is also a critical duty.

1. Manage laboratory access, security, and accountability, including biometric access and temporary authorizations.
2. Maintain a current master inventory of all laboratory assets, ensuring equipment is organized, clean, and ready for use.
3. Conduct daily equipment checks, troubleshoot operational issues, and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with vendors.
4. Monitor consumable levels and proactively submit restocking requests to prevent training interruptions.
5. Maintain the authoritative laboratory schedule, confirm bookings, and coordinate with faculty and residents.
6. Prepare training stations, instruments, consumables, and audiovisual systems for each session or workshop.
7. Support off-site training trips by preparing equipment and materials and reconciling items upon return.
8. Maintain complete and accurate attendance and sign-in records for all laboratory activities.
9. Label, organize, quality-check, and upload training videos to the designated system, ensuring data protection.
10. Maintain learner progress records for the LAPP program and provide data for reports.
11. Coordinate logistics for animal organs or other specimens, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal.
12. Adhere to hospital requirements for infection prevention, PPE, biological material handling, and waste segregation.
13. Ensure laboratory cleanliness, orderly work surfaces, and safe practices before, during, and after all activities.
14. Develop competence in laparoscopic skills, equipment setup, simulation tasks, and assessment tools.
15. Orient participants to the LAPP program, laboratory access, equipment handling, and safety procedures.
16. Enroll each participant in the LAPP program.
17. Observe training activity videos and provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to faculty and residents.
18. Refer clinical questions or significant learner concerns to the responsible faculty member or Medical Education Programs Coordinator.
19. Collect user feedback and recommend practical improvements to lab flow, equipment, and learner experience.
20. Submit weekly and monthly reports on sessions, progress, inventory, incidents, and planned activities.
21. Immediately notify the Medical Education Programs Coordinator of significant equipment loss, security breaches, safety incidents, or training disruptions.

9. Education, training, or work experience demonstrating the above competencies.
10. Experience in a skills laboratory, simulation center, training program, clinical environment, technical workshop, or comparable role.
11. Experience maintaining inventories, coordinating repairs, supporting audiovisual systems, or managing digital training records.
12. Familiarity with infection-prevention practices, personal protective equipment, and safe handling of biological training specimens.
