Job Description

This role involves delivering comprehensive theoretical and practical competency-based training in Perioperative Theatre Technology, adhering to approved curricula. Key duties include developing schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment tools, as well as conducting learner assessments and maintaining accurate records. The trainer will also supervise students during practical sessions, clinical attachments, and other experiential learning activities. Furthermore, the position requires active participation in curriculum implementation, review, and development, along with guiding and mentoring learners in professional and ethical practices. The successful candidate will also contribute to departmental meetings, institutional activities, quality assurance initiatives, and support collaborations with health facilities and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver teaching and training to learners in Perioperative Theatre Technology, following the approved curriculum.
  2. Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, training materials, and assessment tools.
  3. Conduct theoretical, practical, and competency-based training sessions.
  4. Assess learners' progress and maintain accurate training and assessment records.
  5. Supervise students during practical sessions, clinical/industrial attachments, and other experiential learning activities.
  6. Participate actively in curriculum implementation, review, and development processes.
  7. Provide guidance and mentorship to learners on professional and ethical practices.
  8. Engage in departmental meetings, institutional activities, quality assurance efforts, and other assigned duties.
  9. Support the establishment and maintenance of linkages and collaborations with health facilities and relevant industry partners.
  10. Perform any other duties as directed by the Head of Department or authorized officer.

Requirements

  1. Hold an HND or Bachelor's Degree in Perioperative Theatre Technology, Operating Theatre Technology, Nursing, or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Be registered and/or licensed by the appropriate professional regulatory body, if applicable.
  3. Demonstrate relevant practical and/or industry experience in perioperative theatre technology.
  4. Possess competence in using computers and relevant digital learning technologies.
  5. Exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  6. Be capable of facilitating both theoretical and practical competency-based training.
  7. A pedagogical or TVET trainer training qualification, such as a recognized Certificate/Diploma in Technical Trainer Education or equivalent, is an added advantage.
