Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance Kenya is the national umbrella body of all organizations, patients’ groups, NGOs, CBOs and professional associations involved in advocacy, prevention, control, care, and rehabilitation of persons living with or at risk of developing NCDs.
Job Description
The Nursing Officer will support patient consultations, deliver NCD education and self-management support, discharge planning, mentorship at health centers, and community outreach services. The role also involves ensuring efficient clinic operations, maintaining accurate records, and facilitating timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment and Triage: Receive patients, register their information, and conduct initial assessments (vital signs, weight, height).
- Medical Procedures: Perform treatments such as administering injections, dressing wounds, and inserting intravenous lines as prescribed.
- Assisting Clinicians: Support doctors and specialists during examinations and special procedures.
- Observation: Attend to patients in the observation room and monitoring their progress in response to treatment.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient history, vitals, and treatment plans in charts or electronic medical records.
- Workflow Management: Manage the daily flow of patients to ensure efficiency and minimize wait times.
- Instrument Management: Ensure the cleanliness, sterilization, and availability of instruments and equipment.
- Referrals: Facilitate referrals for patients needing specialized care within the hospital.
- Health Education: Educate patients and family members on illnesses, treatment plans, medication compliance, and at-home care.
- Psych Social Support: identify patient who are in need for enrolment and linkage with the support system.
- Training and Mentorship: participate in PENPlus training and mentorship provided by master trainers, Peers and Consultants.
- Peer Educators: Provide clinical and psychosocial education support to the identified PENPlus Peer Educators and respective support groups.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facility In-Charge or NCDAK Programmes Manager to support clinic operations and patient care.
Requirements
- Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Currently registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in clinical settings, with a focus on NCD management preferred.
- Previous working of programmes, especially health programmes will be an added advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with patients, clinical staff, and community members.
- Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and use of health management systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage clinic operations, and deliver high-quality care.
- Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination.
- Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in English and Proficiency in word processing and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrable evidence of strong written and oral communication skill.
- Excellent analytic, writing, and organizational skills.
