Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance Kenya (NCD Alliance Kenya) is the national umbrella body of all organizations, patients’ groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs) and professional associations involved in advocacy, prevention, control, care, and rehabilitation of persons living with or at risk of developing NCDs. The Organisation seeks to address the rising prevalence of NCDs comprehensively and sustainably in Kenya by bringing together stakeholders working on NCD prevention and control.
Job Description
The Clinical Officer will be responsible for providing leadership of the PEN-Plus NCD Clinics, diagnosing and providing appropriate care or treatment interventions for NCD patients. Provide leadership, management and mentor clinic staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient consultations, education and discharge planning for patients admitted with severe NCDs; and support mentorship at health centres and community outreach services.
- Liaise with the clinic in-charge to ensure appropriate patient care, efficient operation of the clinic including record keeping and reporting.
- Partner with individuals and the clinical team to deliver high-standard care to patients with severe NCDs.
- Provide NCD self-management education and support patients during consultation.
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the PEN-Plus NCD clinic to ensure efficient a seamless service delivery.
- Mentor PEN-Plus NCD clinic staff and facilitate referral processes for complex NCD cases.
- Work closely with the team and clinic in-charge to compile progress reports and ensure timely, high-quality reporting.
- Mentor PEN clinic staff at the primary care level facilities on NCD management and care pathways.
- Support continuous medical education and training for clinic staff to build capacity in risk management.
- Assist in the mapping persons with lived experience for severe NCDs within Hamisi County Hospital catchment area.
- Work in community settings to provide education on NCDs, raise awareness.
- Collaborate with the Facility’s Health Records Office to ensure timely and accurate reporting of clinic data.
- Keep updated and well-documented records, including clinic reports, progress updates, and activity outcomes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facility In-Charge or NCDAK Programmes Manager to support clinic operations and patient care.
Requirements
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Currently registered with the Clinical Officers Council.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in clinical settings, with a focus on NCD management preferred.
- Previous working of programmes, especially health programmes will be an added advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with patients, clinical staff, and community members.
- Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and use of health management systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage clinic operations, and deliver high-quality care.
- Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination.
- Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in English and Proficiency in word processing and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrable evidence of strong written and oral communication skill.
- Excellent analytic, writing, and organizational skills.
