M.P. Shah Hospital, one of East Africa’s leading tertiary healthcare institutions, is seeking an exceptional Quality Improvement Medical Officer to play a strategic role in advancing patient safety, clinical governance, and international accreditation standards.

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Risk and Quality Improvement, you will operate at the intersection of clinical practice, data, governance, and accreditation, partnering closely with senior clinicians, service leaders, and executive stakeholders. You will be entrusted with driving measurable improvements in clinical quality, leading investigations into sentinel events, coordinating accreditation readiness, and strengthening the hospital’s quality culture in line with global best practice (JCI, ISO, AMUA, KAIZEN). This role offers significant visibility, influence, and professional growth for a clinician ready to step into a high-impact quality leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Hospital-wide development, review, and implementation of quality and patient safety policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines
  2. Interpretation and operationalisation of quality frameworks within complex clinical environments
  3. Leadership of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for sentinel events and adverse clinical outcomes
  4. Design, analysis, and presentation of clinical quality, safety, and utilisation data to inform decision-making
  5. Coordination of corrective and preventive action plans arising from audits, surveys, and regulatory reviews
  6. Leadership of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives within the Medical Division
  7. Active participation in JCI accreditation, including role as JCI Survey Coordinator
  8. Implementation support for ISO standards, AMUA, and KAIZEN methodologies
  9. Risk assessment, risk mitigation, and enterprise risk management collaboration
  10. Mentorship and capability building for clinicians and departmental teams on quality improvement methodologies
  11. Participation in benchmarking, innovation, and quality improvement research

Requirements

  1. Medical or clinical degree (mandatory), with strong grounding in clinical care delivery
  2. Postgraduate qualification in health, business, or management (distinct advantage)
  3. Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience within a hospital or healthcare institution
  4. Strong command of clinical governance, patient safety, and quality systems
  5. Demonstrated capability in data analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring
  6. Confidence working with senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams
  7. Proven ability to translate standards into practical, sustainable clinical improvements
  8. High integrity, discipline, and systems-thinking mindset
