Adjunct Laboratory Technician (Human Anatomy)

United States International University–Africa (USIU Africa) is an institution of higher learning founded in 1969, located in Nairobi, Kenya, offering education and training.

The Laboratory technician – Human Anatomy, School of pharmacy & Health Sciences, will be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness and order in the laboratory and will assist the Laboratory Technologist in the day to day activities of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Senior Laboratory Technologist in-charge of Anatomy Laboratory. The candidate will also be expected to engage in community service.

1. Assisting in preparation of reagents, samples and specimen for practical classes.
2. General maintenance and cleanliness of the Anatomy laboratory
3. Preparation of cleaning schedules for Gross Anatomy laboratory.
4. Assisting in identification, collection, and preservation of samples and specimen
5. Assist in setup and maintenance of dissection stations
6. Noting of breakages and other incidences in the laboratories on incidence reports
7. Maintenance of laboratory stock records and inventory for supplies, reagents & equipment
8. Maintenance of a clean and sanitary working area in accordance with WHO’s Good Laboratory Practices
9. Ensuring the return of all solutions, chemicals and apparatus used in laboratory exercises.
10. Assist with dissection and pro-section of cadavers for study
11. Storage of supplies and equipment; disposing of solutions, used samples and specimen according to guidelines; and keeping storerooms and working areas orderly and clean.
12. Remain abreast of any legislative or industry changes and adjustments that may materially affect health and safety management within the anatomy laboratory
13. Cleans up after each lab session by washing, and if necessary, sterilizing tools, decontamination of lab equipment, and supplies.
14. Assisting in “tagging” of specimens for practical examinations
15. Maintenance of sharps containers and disposable biological waste in accordance with facility protocol.
16. Preparation of preservative solutions for embalming
17. Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

1. Certificate in mortuary sciences from an accredited institution with experience in preparations of Human Anatomy /Pathology specimen.
2. Diploma in Mortuary sciences from an accredited institution with experience in preparations of Human Anatomy/ Pathology specimen.
3. Experience in working in Anatomy lab will be an added advantage
