The successful candidate will fill in the above position.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To supervise and ensure the efficient running of the ICU/HDU department at the main hospital.
  2. Co-ordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the Critical Care Unit.
  3. Analyses workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
  4. Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.
  5. Delegates appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professionalguidelines and departmental standards.
  6. Maintains clear communications with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and/or incidents.
  7. Assists with patient care as needed.
  8. Identifies appropriate internal controls for the department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
  9. Providing second on-call coverage
  10. Co-ordination of morbidity/mortality meetings and Multi-Disciplinary Meetings
  11. Ensures the unit is well equipped with well-functioning equipment.
  12. Prepares the budget and ensures procurement of capital items to specifications and adequate suppliesfor the unit at all times
  13. Carries out performance appraisals for department clinical staff
  14. Ensures the competence and efficiency of staff in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude
  15. In liaison with HR department, manage staff welfare, training and development
  16. Creates a work environment that fosters a high degree of personal integrity, team spirit and outstanding performance standards
  17. Reports on clinical issues to the Director of Medical Services as required.
  18. Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required.
  19. Any other duty assigned.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB)
  2. Minimum 3 years as a Senior Medical Officer
  3. Masters training will be an added advantage
  4. Minimum two years ICU /Critical Care Experience
  5. Experience in the clinical management of pediatric and adult cardiac cases
  6. Ability to train & develop staff
  7. Supervisory experience
  8. Registered with KMPDC with a valid practicing license
