About the Company

The International Potato Center (CIP), a member of CGIAR, is seeking a motivated Research Auxiliary to support hybrid potato breeding activities at the PQS–Muguga station.

Job Description

The role involves hands-on greenhouse and field support under the Genetic Innovation – Public–Private Partnership project. You will work closely with technical and research staff to ensure smooth execution of breeding trials, plant maintenance, and field experiments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Carry out routine greenhouse activities as directed by supervisors
  2. Support watering, fertilization, and pest monitoring of plants
  3. Assist in manual pollination and hybrid crossing activities
  4. Support seed extraction and berry harvesting under supervision
  5. Maintain greenhouse hygiene and operational standards
  6. Assist in planting, weeding, irrigation, and general field maintenance
  7. Support harvesting of crops and collection of plant samples
  8. Assist in sorting, labeling, and organizing harvested materials
  9. Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment, and field stations
  10. Follow instructions from technical and research staff
  11. Ensure accurate handling of breeding materials
  12. Support data and sample organization where required
  13. Maintain safety and compliance standards in all tasks

Requirements

  1. Minimum: High school education
  2. Additional training in agriculture, greenhouse management or field practices is an added advantage
  3. At least 1 year experience in greenhouse, farm or field support work preferred
  4. Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  5. Ability to follow technical instructions carefully
  6. Good teamwork and communication skills
  7. Physically fit and able to work in field conditions
  8. Proactive and responsible work attitude
  9. Fluent in English and Swahili
