The Multimedia Specialist will be responsible for creating engaging digital learning content and managing multimedia production workflows. This includes designing, developing, and editing various multimedia assets like videos, animations, interactive graphics, and audio for online courses and digital education programs. The specialist will also integrate new educational technologies into Learning Management Systems (LMS), evaluate new EdTech tools, and collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to ensure content aligns with learning outcomes and accessibility standards. Additionally, the role involves coordinating the use of studio facilities, preparing resources for instructional sessions, and providing technical guidance during studio classes. The specialist will also develop and deliver training on educational technology and multimedia production techniques, create interactive learning objects using authoring tools, and apply web technologies to enhance digital learning interfaces. Key responsibilities also include managing the entire multimedia production lifecycle, maintaining a digital asset repository, conducting quality assurance, and staying updated on digital education trends to contribute to the university's digital learning strategy. The role also involves developing instructional materials for studio production, maintaining studio equipment, tracking inventory, and providing graphic design support to other departments as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and edit high-quality multimedia content, including videos, animations, interactive graphics, simulations, and audio, for online courses and digital education programs.
- Lead the integration of emerging educational technologies into Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other digital learning platforms, evaluating and recommending new EdTech tools.
- Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to align multimedia and digital content with course learning outcomes, pedagogical strategies, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Facilitate practical learning by coordinating the use of audio, video, and print studio facilities for academic programs and assignments.
- Prepare studio resources and equipment for instructional sessions and provide hands-on technical guidance during studio-based classes.
- Develop and deliver training sessions for faculty and staff on effective use of educational technology tools, e-learning authoring platforms, and multimedia production techniques.
- Create interactive learning objects using e-learning authoring tools such as H5P, Articulate Storyline, and Adobe Captivate.
- Apply web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to customize learning interfaces, build interactive educational components, and enhance user experience in digital learning environments.
- Manage end-to-end multimedia production workflows for online learning, from storyboarding and scripting through production, post-production, publishing, and archival.
- Maintain and curate a centralized digital asset repository, ensuring version control, metadata tagging, and efficient retrieval of learning resources.
- Conduct quality assurance testing of digital learning materials across devices and platforms and troubleshoot technical issues related to content delivery and user access.
- Monitor developments in digital education, instructional design, and educational technology, implementing innovative solutions and contributing to the university’s digital learning strategy.
- Develop instructional materials and technical guides for studio production in audio, video, and print media.
- Support the studio lab by maintaining equipment inventory, conducting daily checks, performing minor repairs, and recommending purchases or upgrades.
- Issue and track studio equipment using established protocols and conduct comprehensive inventory audits periodically.
- Provide additional technical and graphic design support to marketing, corporate affairs, and other departments for multimedia production needs, aligning with university branding.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, Instructional Design, Multimedia Production, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree in educational technology, Instructional Design, Digital Learning, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Relevant professional qualification.
- Membership in a relevant professional body.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in educational technology, multimedia production, graphic design, digital learning content development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting faculty with instructional design, content development, and technology integration at the higher education level.
- Proven track record of managing multimedia production projects from conception to delivery in an educational context.
- Experience with studio-based audio/video production and equipment management is an added advantage.
