Humanities Editor

Longhorn Publishers is a Kenyan public limited liability company, established in 1965 as Longmans of Kenya. Initially a sales promotion office for UK publications, it has grown to become a key player in educational publishing, wholly-owned and run by Kenyans.

This role involves joining the editorial team to develop and edit humanities educational content. The successful candidate will ensure all materials are accurate, engaging, and compliant with the CBE curriculum, working collaboratively with authors, reviewers, and designers throughout the publishing process. Responsibilities include sourcing manuscripts, conducting research, and maintaining content quality.

1. Identify and acquire manuscripts, and propose innovative publishing projects.
2. Edit and proofread humanities educational manuscripts to high editorial standards.
3. Ensure content is accurate, relevant, engaging, and compliant with the curriculum.
4. Collaborate closely with authors, reviewers, and designers throughout the publishing process.
5. Conduct thorough content research, fact-checking, and quality assurance.
6. Maintain consistency, coherence, and appropriate content progression across various titles.
7. Support the creation of high-quality learning materials aligned with the CBE framework.

1. Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, with a specialization in Geography and History.
2. At least 4 years of experience in book publishing, preferably within educational publishing.
3. Demonstrated strong editing, proofreading, research, and fact-checking abilities.
4. A solid understanding of the CBE curriculum and its specific requirements.
5. Capability to develop and review content that is accurate, engaging, and learner-centered.
6. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
7. Experience collaborating with authors, reviewers, designers, and other publishing teams.
8. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in the educational publishing sector.
