Job Description

The Splicing Technician will be responsible for splicing fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings, as well as reading, creating, and maintaining splicing schematics and diagrams. This role also involves maintaining control over outside plant activities at assigned work sites, taking and maintaining accurate splicing and field notes, and supporting project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform fiber splicing to construct proper splice cases, ensuring grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
  2. Troubleshoot network issues and conduct routine maintenance.
  3. Rehabilitate the network, including tensioning cables, replacing manhole covers, and recovering cables.
  4. Maintain accurate records of the cable network infrastructure.
  5. Liaise with other technical departments to provide support and resolve network issues.
  6. Check and advise on environmental issues within the nodes in the assigned area.
  7. Maintain site safety by eliminating hazards or reporting them before commencing work.
  8. Carry out onsite surveys and scoping for cases requiring network changes and routing, then challenge these findings to the Regional Manager to raise associated PM orders.
  9. Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  1. Hold a minimum Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  2. Possess at least four years of working experience in a network maintenance role.
  3. Demonstrate technical aptitude in electrical and telecommunication infrastructure.
  4. Exhibit strong analytical skills.
  5. Be keen to details.
