About the Company

CEFA – The European Committee for Training and Agriculture is an Italian Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1972, active in several countries across Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. CEFA promotes sustainable and inclusive development through long-term initiatives in agriculture, environment, education, gender equality, and human rights, implemented in partnership with local communities and institutions.

Its work is guided by the values of participation, equality, and social justice, aiming to empower people, especially women and youth, and strengthen their capacity for self-reliance.

Job Description

CEFA will coordinate the implementation of the project “GROW – Gender-Responsive Opportunities for Water Access, Livelihood Recovery and Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Communities in West Pokot County,” funded by AICS and implemented in partnership with Perur Rays of Hope in West Pokot County, Kenya. The project will be carried out in Pokot North Sub-County, specifically in Kodich, Kapchok and Kiwawa wards.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the living conditions and the capacity to respond to shocks of populations most exposed to multidimensional poverty and the impacts of climate change. Specifically, the project aims to address humanitarian needs and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities in ASAL areas through three main components: (a) improving safe and continuous access to drinking water and inclusive WASH services, with a focus on women, girls and persons with disabilities; (b) strengthening food security, nutrition, agriculture and pastoral livelihoods through sustainable practices, dietary diversification, income-generating activities, fodder production and support to the honey value chain; and (c) enhancing disaster risk reduction through risk analysis tools, early warning systems, agroforestry, reforestation and sustainable land management.

The duty station will be West Pokot County, Kenya, with the exact location to be determined based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

The CEFA Agriculture Field Officer (Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture and Food Security), under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator and in close coordination with the Project Manager, is responsible for the field implementation of the project’s agriculture and food security activities.

Main Duties

  • Support the implementation of the project’s agricultural activities, including training on basic and climate-smart agronomic techniques, distribution of agricultural inputs, and collaboration with the private sector.
  • Contribute to the selection, regular follow-up and collection of field data to monitor the adoption of the techniques learned and the progress of production.
  • Facilitate and co-lead training sessions, including ToT, cascade trainings and demonstration sessions, on basic agronomic techniques and climate-smart agriculture, ensuring the quality of the contents and the effectiveness of the training.
  • Coordinate the logistics and distribution of seeds, fertilizers and other inputs, ensuring traceability, proper documentation and transparency.
  • Support the creation and monitoring of value chain agreements between producers and private sector buyers, supervising the negotiation phases and the implementation of contracts.
  • Support the creation and follow-up of partnerships between farmer groups and agricultural service providers, such as ploughing and credit services, monitoring the proper delivery of services.
  • Collect, analyse and archive information on crop status, the effectiveness of training activities and the impact of the activities, regularly updating monitoring databases and reports.
  • Organize workshops, demonstration days and meetings between producers and the private sector, ensuring proper logistics and documentation, including attendance lists, minutes and photographic reports.
  • Provide continuous assistance to farmer groups, facilitating the exchange of experiences and the creation of networks with businesses and markets.
  • Maintain constant dialogue with the Department of Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change of West Pokot County and with local authorities, ensuring alignment with current policies and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Field Coordinator and the Project Manager, ensuring that activities are implemented according to high quality standards, within the planned timeframe and with adequate reporting.
  • Accurately complete attendance sheets, distribution lists, minutes and other supporting documentation, ensuring the orderly filing of project evidence.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Project Manager in line with the profile and the needs of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or equivalent secondary school diploma with at least 3 years of experience in agricultural or food security projects.
