Key Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, test, and maintain software components, services, and integrations for digital health systems, adhering to approved requirements, architecture, and technical specifications.
  2. Translate user stories, functional requirements, and workflows into technical designs and well-structured, maintainable, and reusable code.
  3. Build and maintain integrations between digital health systems using applicable health information exchange standards such as HL7 FHIR, and national registries (e.g., client, facility, and health worker registries).
  4. Apply secure coding practices and privacy-by-design principles, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit logging, in compliance with data protection acts.
  5. Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data pipelines to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability.
  6. Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and technical design discussions to uphold code quality and engineering standards.
  7. Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and support quality assurance teams during system, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  8. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code to enable reliable, repeatable deployments across development, staging, and production environments.
  9. Monitor system performance, availability, and logs; troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve defects and production incidents within agreed service levels.
  10. Support the review and validation of software delivered by technology partners to confirm adherence to approved specifications, coding standards, and security requirements.
  11. Identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities, and recommend and implement remediation measures.
  12. Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including API specifications, system design notes, deployment guides, and operational runbooks.
  13. Work closely with solution architecture, product management, project management, quality assurance, cybersecurity, and data management teams to ensure coordinated delivery.
  14. Engage with technology and development partners to align on technical approaches, integration requirements, and delivery timelines.
  15. Contribute to agile ceremonies, technical governance forums, and continuous improvement of engineering practices and standards.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  2. Professional certification in software development.
  3. Demonstrated expertise or certification in FHIR/HL7 interoperability standards.
  4. Certification or training in secure software development, DevOps, or agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum) is an added advantage.
  5. Minimum of 2 years of hands-on software development design and engineering experience.
  6. Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and frameworks.
  7. Experience designing and implementing system integrations.
