Maintenance Supervisor – Mechanical

Mabati Rolling Mills Limited (MRM), a member of the Safal Group, is a manufacturing company founded in 1962, specializing in steel, tubes, pipes, and metal processing.

The Maintenance Supervisor – Mechanical is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing all mechanical maintenance activities within the ERW Plant. This includes ensuring optimal equipment availability and reliability, effectively managing spare parts inventory, providing timely technical reports, and successfully implementing capital expenditure projects designed to enhance plant capacity, improve reliability, and boost operational efficiency. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and resolving recurring breakdowns, leading root cause analyses, and implementing permanent corrective actions to maintain smooth plant operations.

1. Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective mechanical maintenance plans for ERW mills and associated plant equipment.
2. Ensure high equipment availability and reliability by identifying recurring breakdowns, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing permanent solutions.
3. Plan, assign, supervise, and coordinate daily mechanical maintenance tasks, shutdown activities, and breakdown interventions.
4. Manage spare parts effectively by monitoring consumption trends, defining optimal stock levels, raising timely purchase requisitions, and preventing critical shortages.
5. Prepare comprehensive mechanical maintenance reports, summarizing information on breakdowns, downtime, equipment availability, maintenance costs, spare parts usage, and improvement actions.
6. Utilize SAP PM or similar maintenance systems for work order management, history tracking, preventive maintenance scheduling, and performance monitoring.
7. Lead technical troubleshooting for mechanical systems, including mill stands, forming and sizing sections, cut-off systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, and utility equipment.
8. Identify opportunities for plant reliability and capacity enhancement, translating them into practical engineering solutions.
9. Prepare scopes, technical specifications, cost estimates, and execution plans for mechanical CAPEX projects and reliability improvement initiatives.
10. Supervise the installation, commissioning, and handover of approved mechanical projects, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, timelines, and budget.
11. Ensure compliance with company safety standards, permit-to-work requirements, statutory regulations, and good housekeeping practices during all maintenance activities.
12. Train, guide, and develop mechanical technicians to enhance their troubleshooting skills, maintenance discipline, and autonomous maintenance practices.
13. Collaborate with production, quality, electrical maintenance, procurement, and stores teams to ensure seamless plant operations and timely support.
14. Monitor contractor work, verify technical quality, and ensure completion of mechanical jobs according to agreed scope and safety standards.
15. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, enhancing mill performance, lowering maintenance costs, and improving product quality.

1. Minimum academic qualification: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
2. Added advantage qualifications: Training in maintenance planning, SAP PM/CMMS, reliability maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding systems, or project management.
3. Professional registration: Relevant engineering or technician registration is an added advantage.
4. General work experience: 7 – 10 years in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
5. Specific experience: At least 3 – 5 years in ERW tube mill/mechanical maintenance supervision, maintenance planning, spare parts management, and plant improvement projects.
6. Industry experience: Steel, tubes and pipes, metal processing, manufacturing, or a related heavy engineering industry.
7. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
8. Proficiency in maintenance planning and organizing.
9. Knowledge of spare parts planning and inventory control.
10. Skills in technical reporting and data analysis.
11. Ability to coordinate and execute CAPEX projects.
12. Leadership, supervision, and technician development skills.
13. Strong safety awareness and compliance orientation.
