Job Description

This role involves collaborating with the Area Manager to develop and execute the branch's overall business strategy. Key responsibilities include identifying opportunities to expand the quality portfolio, promoting digital and agency banking, and enhancing Bancassurance services. The manager is responsible for acquiring and retaining clients through effective relationship management, providing leadership to branch staff, and guiding the Ignite Associates team and Sales Consultants in implementing business growth initiatives. A primary focus is to aggressively achieve branch growth and profitability targets by cultivating and sustaining profitable customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement branch business initiatives and turnaround strategies aligned with Faulu's overall business goals for growth and profitability.
  2. Lead the growth and development of the branch, its agencies, and other alternative service outlets.
  3. Drive sales of all products and services at the branch level through leadership, motivation of the sales team, sales drives, and liaison with key stakeholders.
  4. Initiate, nurture, and ensure profitable business relationships and partnerships with customers, the community, and government structures.
  5. Develop business opportunities in line with the bank's long-term strategy and annual business plans, staying updated on customer needs and competitor activities.
  6. Ensure the growth of a quality branch business portfolio (assets and liabilities) to consistently achieve income, quality, and portfolio growth targets.
  7. Drive customer growth and retention through quality client recruitment, onboarding, cross-selling products, and excellent customer relationship management.
  8. Implement strategic marketing to develop a competitive advantage, leveraging Faulu's capabilities to drive value.
  9. Promote Faulu's brand visibility and image by acting as a key liaison with the community and participating in community affairs.
  10. Collaborate with business unit leaders, marketing, and product development teams to review existing products and recommend improvements based on changing customer needs.
  11. Strategically position Faulu as a "Trader's Bank" through consistent messaging to current and potential clients.
  12. Ensure proper allocation and display of merchandising materials according to marketing and bank guidelines.
  13. Manage and lead the branch team to achieve or surpass business targets by setting performance goals, providing regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship.
  14. Develop a high-performing team at the branch through training, mentorship, and special assignments.
  15. Establish a proper succession plan by continuously developing team capabilities and mentoring identified successors.
  16. Oversee Human Capital functions at the branch, consulting with HC for policy and procedure interpretation.
  17. Track team members' participation in personal development programs, including internal and external training.
  18. Ensure adherence to Faulu Human Capital policies, procedures, and grievance/disciplinary processes to maintain a conducive work environment.
  19. Enhance staff motivation and engagement through unique recognition initiatives at the branch.
  20. Lead in the optimal utilization of people, financial, and technical resources within the branch.
  21. Conduct budget planning and continuously evaluate branch financial performance against budgets, managing costs and taking remedial actions as needed.
  22. Provide superior customer relationship management and promote a culture of customer retention, sales, and service.
  23. Observe branch opening and closing procedures as per CBK requirements.
  24. Ensure total adherence to health and safety requirements through continuous monitoring of systems, procedures, and workflows.
  25. Be responsible for all branch security procedures, including opening/closing, camera surveillance, video monitoring, and emergency drills.
  26. Ensure no breach of branch cash limits in adherence to regulatory guidelines.
  27. Chair the Branch Credit Committee and ensure compliance with Credit policy and procedures.
  28. Monitor and ensure 100% compliance with all company policies, processes, procedures, and controls.
  29. Enhance appropriate controls and monitoring mechanisms for developing high-quality lending.
  30. Ensure full compliance with Central Bank of Kenya guidelines and Microfinance provisions regarding lending.
  31. Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Environmental Social Management (ESM) policies and procedures in daily branch business.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field from a recognized university.
  2. At least 6 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role demonstrating superior results.
  3. Experience in lending or credit.
  4. Experience in a Microfinance Institution (MFI) or other financial institutions.
  5. Strong business strategy implementation skills.
  6. Good presentation skills.
  7. Effective people management skills.
  8. Excellent data entry and typing skills.
  9. Proven sales and marketing skills.
  10. Strong financial analytical skills.
  11. Excellent customer service skills.

  22. Master’s in Business or a related field (preferred).
