Job Description
The Social Media and Content Officer will be a creative and adaptable communicator, skilled in visual storytelling and digital engagement. They will manage multiple content requests, ensuring high standards of quality and consistency, and will be comfortable experimenting with various formats to connect with diverse audiences. This role involves working as part of a global team, potentially requiring some work outside normal hours to accommodate different time zones and occasional international travel. The position is a fixed-term contract for two years, requiring the successful candidate to have the right to work in their chosen base country for the entire duration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute social media strategies, plans, and approaches to support external engagement and organizational goals.
- Create and deliver tailored social media plans, calendars, scheduling, and content (copy/visuals) aligned with the organization's brand, messaging, and priorities.
- Contribute to audience mapping and analysis, providing insights from social media performance and trends.
- Collaborate with the Senior Digital Communications Officer to ensure cohesive digital journeys for key audiences.
- Monitor and evaluate social media performance using data and insights to continuously improve engagement.
- Manage daily social media activities independently, identifying and acting on emerging opportunities.
- Work proactively with teams to integrate strategic social media approaches into planning for campaigns and key moments.
- Collaborate with media and communications colleagues to respond to breaking news and organizational priorities through timely social media activity.
- Produce engaging, high-quality multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and photography, to support organizational priorities.
- Develop creative concepts and narrative approaches for compelling content across digital channels.
- Ensure all multimedia content is accurate, inclusive, accessible, and aligned with organizational messaging and ethical storytelling.
- Work with communications colleagues to enhance written content and media opportunities through multimedia storytelling.
- Identify and manage a network of independent creative suppliers (designers, videographers), coordinating commissioning and delivery.
- Ensure visual consistency and adherence to brand standards across all communications outputs.
- Collaborate closely with other communications team members for integrated communications delivery.
- Partner with cross-functional project teams to support communications plan development and content gathering.
- Assist with report design and visual presentation of organizational materials.
- Support the maintenance of communications assets, content libraries, and editorial resources.
- Contribute to the Communications Team's content calendars and forward planning processes.
- Participate in team planning, learning, and connection activities to foster a high-performing global team.
- Undertake monitoring and evaluation to support learning and improved audience engagement.
- Support copywriting, proofreading, and translation of communications outputs in core languages.
- Commit to the mission and vision of Girls Not Brides and uphold its core values.
- Comply with organizational policies, including safeguarding, diversity, and data protection.
- Maintain internal databases and monitoring information.
- Engage in ongoing personal development and learning.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in digital communications, social media communications, or related fields within the not-for-profit sector, international organizations, social movements, or social enterprises.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering social media content and strategies across multiple platforms, understanding audience and channel adaptation.
- Experience in creating engaging content, including graphics, video, photography, multimedia assets, and written materials.
- Proficiency in using audience insights, analytics, and performance data to inform content planning and enhance engagement.
- Experience in applying brand guidelines and visual communication principles across various materials and platforms.
- Strong social media planning skills for platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, including experience with scheduling and monitoring tools.
- Strong graphic design and visual storytelling capabilities.
- Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Canva, CapCut, or similar design and video editing software.
- Solid understanding of branding, accessibility, audience engagement, and platform-specific content requirements.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple creative projects and meet deadlines.
- (Desirable) Experience in thematic areas such as child marriage, girls’ education, or sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- (Desirable) Experience with video production, photography, or animation.
- (Desirable) Experience in designing reports, publications, or long-form communications materials.
- (Desirable) Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and Spanish.
- (Desirable) Experience living or working in Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America & the Caribbean.
