Internship Description

The Accounts Intern will support the Finance Department in carrying out day-to-day accounting and financial administration activities. The role provides practical exposure to accounting processes, financial record management, reconciliations, and reporting while enabling the intern to develop professional skills in a dynamic work environment.

What You Will Do

  1. Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
  2. Organize, file, and archive financial documents in both physical and electronic formats.
  3. Ensure supporting documentation is complete and properly referenced.
  4. Assist in verifying supplier invoices and supporting documents.
  5. Prepare payment vouchers for review and approval.
  6. Update supplier payment records and maintain filing systems.
  7. Assist in recording customer receipts and maintaining debtor records.
  8. Support follow-up on outstanding customer balances where required.
  9. Help reconcile customer accounts.
  10. Assist in recording daily cash and bank transactions.
  11. Support bank reconciliations by matching transactions and identifying variances.
  12. Help maintain accurate cashbook records.
  13. Capture financial transactions accurately into the accounting system.
  14. Update financial databases and spreadsheets.
  15. Verify the accuracy of entered data and report discrepancies.
  16. Assist in preparing schedules and reports required for monthly financial reporting.
  17. Compile supporting documentation for financial analysis.
  18. Support preparation of statutory reports where applicable.
  19. Assist in preparing documents required for internal and external audits.
  20. Ensure financial records comply with company policies and accounting procedures.
  21. Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  22. Assist with general finance office administration.
  23. Receive and distribute finance-related documents.
  24. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  1. Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field (ongoing or recently completed).
  2. CPA Part I or II is an added advantage.
  3. Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  5. Familiarity with accounting software is an added advantage.
  6. High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  7. Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  8. Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  9. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Willingness to learn and take initiative.
  11. Good organizational and time management skills.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  13. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
