Job Description

Browns Plantations East Africa PLC is looking for an experienced Self Propelled Harvester (SPH) Operator to support mechanized tea harvesting operations across its estates. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating harvesting equipment while maintaining high standards of productivity, tea quality, workplace safety, and machine maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Operate the Self Propelled Harvester safely and efficiently.
  2. Harvest tea according to company quality standards.
  3. Carry out daily machine inspections before and after operations.
  4. Perform basic fault diagnosis and report mechanical issues.
  5. Work closely with SPH mechanics on preventive maintenance.
  6. Ensure harvesting schedules are achieved.
  7. Conduct workplace risk assessments.
  8. Follow company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  9. Maintain harvesting records and production reports.
  10. Monitor fuel usage and machine efficiency.
  11. Participate in crop readiness assessments.
  12. Assist in field planning and harvesting coordination.
  13. Maintain cleanliness and proper care of harvesting equipment.
  14. Comply with all transportation and operational SOPs.

Requirements

  1. Certificate in Plant Operations or a related technical discipline.
  2. Valid Class C and G Driving Licences.
  3. Experience operating Self Propelled Harvesters (SPH) and tractors.
  4. Good understanding of agricultural machinery operation.
  5. Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
  6. Heavy equipment operation.
  7. Mechanical troubleshooting.
  8. Preventive maintenance.
  9. Safety awareness.
  10. Teamwork.
  11. Communication skills.
  12. Time management.
  13. Record keeping.
  14. Problem-solving.
  15. Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience.
  16. Practical experience operating SPH harvesting equipment.
  17. Experience in commercial tea plantation operations will be an added advantage.
