About the Company

Mabati Rolling Mills Limited (MRM) is a member of the Safal Group, founded in 1962. It is a manufacturing company based in Nairobi, Kenya, specializing in steel processing.

Job Description

The Operator for the Rewinding Line at MRM Mariakani is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the line to meet production targets. Key duties include verifying incoming coil identification, dimensions, and customer specifications before processing, as well as adjusting machine parameters like line speed, strip tension, and side guiding to maintain product quality. The operator must continuously inspect the strip surface for defects such as scratches, dents, rust, oil stains, edge damage, and telescoping, ensuring finished coils meet customer requirements for tightness, shape, dimensions, and appearance. Record-keeping of production quantities, downtime, defects, and material traceability is also essential. The role involves performing routine operator maintenance and daily inspections, supporting maintenance activities during scheduled shutdowns and breakdowns, and minimizing downtime by early identification and reporting of equipment abnormalities. Quality management is a critical aspect, requiring the operator to ensure finished coils comply with customer specifications and quality standards, perform visual inspections, verify coil weight, width, thickness, and identification labels, and identify and segregate non-conforming material. Maintaining full product traceability and participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and quality improvement activities are also part of the role, aiming to reduce coil handling damage and processing defects. Furthermore, the operator must comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements, policies, and procedures, adhere to LOTOTO, Permit-to-Work, and safe work practices, and identify, report, and address unsafe conditions and near misses. Participation in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and emergency response activities, along with maintaining housekeeping standards through 6S principles, is expected. The role also encourages continuous improvement through participation in TPM, Kaizen, and Operational Excellence initiatives, supporting the achievement of productivity, yield, quality, and cost targets, and contributing ideas to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and equipment reliability.
