Tax Associate 1 – Indirect Tax

The holder of this position will ensure that the client and Firm’s expectations are met by delivering high quality services and maintaining high utilization levels.

1. Support on delivery of designated indirect tax engagements/projects, and manage the implementation of agreed deliverables;
2. Carry out Tax risk and opportunity reviews;
3. Assist clients resolve KRA audits;
4. Build and maintain relationships with the clients and other bodies such as the Kenya Revenue Authority;
5. Liaise with the Kenya Revenue Authority on various tax and policy matters;
6. Prepare objections and appeals to the Kenya Revenue Authority assessments;
7. Prepare tax publications for clients and write articles on relevant tax matters;
8. Prepare tax opinions and tax advices;
9. Assist in the preparation of proposals/tenders and presentations;
10. Deliver client services according to relevant Deloitte standards, policies and ethical principles;
11. Collect, assimilate and analyze relevant data using standard tools and data visualizations to help surface insights and solutions;
12. Support in the development of new indirect tax products and market new products; and
13. Assist in developing knowledge of current tax matters across the Tax function.

1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce/Law from a recognised institution.
2. Professional accounting qualification.
3. 2 to 3 years relevant taxation experience.
4. Technical expertise in VAT matters.
5. Good knowledge of international and national taxation principles.
6. Knowledge of Customs and excise matters will be an added advantage.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
8. Effective interpersonal and relationship building/people management skills.
