Job Description

DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for a Trainee – Import / Export Specialist in Nairobi, Kenya. Administer import/ export plans and processes to provide preparation and clearance of documentation through the relevant authorities and guide and advise customers on import/ export operations and regulations in line with business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies. Key Responsibilities

  1. Administer import/ export plans and processes to optimize service and performance.
  2. Perform transactional operational tasks related to import/ export in adherence to regulations and internal procedures.
  3. Undertake import/ export entries and support operational activities as per internal procedures and latest local customs regulations.
  4. Prepare calculations for duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight and volume of merchandise imported/ exported from/ to foreign destinations.
  5. Draft, distribute and archive all required import/ export documents.
  6. Check invoices and shipping documents to enhance accordance with federal regulations.
  7. Verify entries to ensure customer requirements are met and suggest routine corrective actions in case of deviations.
  8. Ensure export, import and gateway operations are as per business guidelines and compliant with set expectations.
  9. Administer IT systems related tasks to provide updated information on shipment.
  10. Cooperate with internal functions such as customer service, product, sales, etc.
  11. Connect with overseas office to check and verify shipment information.
  12. Resolve recurring issues, and suggest enhancements for import/ export work methods focusing on increasing effectiveness and efficiency
  13. Explain facts, policies and practices related to job area.
  14. Support and interact primarily with colleagues of own sub-function.
  15. Develop a network of contacts to build up relationships and strengthen the organizational, product and market knowledge

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/qualification
  2. Less than 2 years of experience
