Senior Legal Counsel- Litigation

The Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation at KCB Bank Kenya is responsible for managing the bank's litigation portfolio. This involves conducting thorough legal research, preparing for court proceedings, overseeing external legal counsel, and providing strategic legal advice to mitigate potential legal and reputational risks for the bank.

1. Conduct legal research, gather evidence, and prepare witnesses for pre-trial and hearings for assigned cases.
2. Develop concept papers, legal briefs, and opinions, and formulate effective defense strategies in collaboration with external lawyers.
3. Represent the Bank in court or before tribunals as a witness or to observe proceedings.
4. Oversee and evaluate the performance of external lawyers to ensure efficiency.
5. Promote legal awareness and advise on suitable actions to prevent or reduce litigation.
6. Review legal fees to ensure compliance with the Remuneration Order and Service Level Agreement.
7. Maintain an up-to-date database of all non-debt recovery litigation and provide required reports.
8. Offer legal guidance to Retail branches on bank policies, processes, and procedures to mitigate legal and reputational risks.

1. A Bachelor's degree in Law.
2. A Diploma in Law.
3. At least 5 years of overall legal experience.
4. A minimum of 4 years of experience in legal drafting.
5. 4 years of experience in Corporate Governance.
6. 4 years of experience in Risk Management.
7. 3 years of experience in legal communication and advocacy.
