Job Description

As Principal: Treasury Operations, you will oversee daily back-office treasury operations across multiple African regions with diverse economic and regulatory environments. You will ensure smooth and timely execution of all treasury-related activities, linking back-office operations with regional teams and external financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Liaise with Merchants Operations team to obtain daily settlement amounts, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and processed on time.
  2. Upload manual settlements as per settlement files, verify transactions, and ensure bank charges are correctly applied.
  3. Ensure timely liquidation and reconciliation of funds from alternative payment methods, mobile money platforms, and aggregators.
  4. Support settlements across the group, coordinating with internal teams and external financial institutions to ensure accurate merchant transaction settlement.
  5. Update and maintain daily cash position files, ensuring all cash balances and outstanding settlements are accurately captured.
  6. Monitor and manage daily liquidity requirements to ensure sufficient funds for operations and merchant settlements across multiple regions.
  7. Assist in developing and maintaining merchant liquidity forecasts to meet obligations.
  8. Execute operational foreign exchange transactions required for settlements and liquidity management.
  9. Optimize cash flow management, ensuring efficient use of funds without holding excessive idle cash.
  10. Prepare reports supporting cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
  11. Manage back-office treasury functions, including fund transfers, bank account management, and transaction reconciliation.
  12. Implement and maintain processes to ensure accuracy and compliance in treasury operations.
  13. Act as the primary contact for banking partners, engaging daily to resolve treasury-related operational issues and maintain seamless financial operations.
  14. Ensure compliance with financial policies, identify potential risks, and propose mitigation strategies to strengthen treasury controls.
  15. Analyze and report key treasury metrics to the Head of Treasury Operations.
  16. Participate in treasury-wide process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall operational effectiveness.
  17. Collaborate with regional teams to understand local financial regulations and ensure seamless cross-border fund transfers and settlements.
  18. Provide support and mentorship to treasury analysts and other staff, helping them develop their skills and ensuring accuracy and efficiency in their work.

Requirements

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  2. Knowledge of banking, treasury and payments products and processes.
  3. Experience: 7-10 years of hands-on experience in treasury operations, back-office processing, or a related field preferably within the fintech industry.
  4. Strong understanding of treasury functions, financial markets, and banking operations.
  5. Familiarity with African financial markets and regulatory frameworks.
  6. Thorough knowledge of African currency markets and regulatory frameworks.
  7. Strong communication skills and an ability to build and leverage cross-functional relationships.
  8. Strong knowledge of finance and accounting principles within a multi-currency, multi-subsidiary environment.
  9. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for data analysis and reporting.
  10. Experience with Treasury Management Systems (Kyriba) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software is a plus.
  11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  12. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  13. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  15. Proactive, results-oriented, and adaptable to change.
