Senior Software Engineer

Zeraki is an education technology company founded in 2015, dedicated to building scalable, reliable, and high-quality technology across its education technology ecosystem.

This role is a hands-on engineering position for an individual with strong technical depth, sound engineering judgment, and a high level of ownership. The successful candidate will be involved in complex systems, contribute to architectural decisions, solve challenging technical problems, and work to improve the reliability, performance, and scalability of Zeraki's platforms. The primary focus will be within the Java/Spring Boot backend ecosystem, requiring close collaboration with Frontend, DevOps, Product, and other engineering teams to deliver cohesive, scalable, and reliable systems. Engineers who demonstrate capability and take on formal technical leadership responsibilities will be eligible for a Tech Lead allowance.

1. Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and maintainable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
2. Own architectural decisions across services, ensuring clear contracts between backend, frontend (Angular), and infrastructure.
3. Translate ambiguous product requirements into well-defined technical designs and execution plans.
4. Drive system design discussions, identifying trade-offs in scalability, performance, and maintainability.
5. Ensure alignment between frontend and backend through well-structured APIs and data contracts.
6. Write high-quality, production-grade code for mission-critical systems.
7. Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
8. Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability.
9. Proactively identify and address technical debt and bottlenecks.
10. Establish and enforce best practices in code quality and testing.
11. Act as a force multiplier through code reviews and technical leadership.
12. Unblock engineers quickly when they face challenges.
13. Balance personal contribution with team enablement.
14. Take full ownership of multi-sprint projects.
15. Coordinate execution across engineers.
16. Drive incident response and post-mortems.
17. Proactively identify and resolve risks.
18. Work closely with Angular frontend engineers.
19. Partner with DevOps on deployment pipelines.
20. Ensure end-to-end system reliability.
21. Align engineering decisions with product goals.
22. Collaborate with Product Managers.

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in backend engineering.
2. Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
3. Experience with distributed systems.
4. Strong system and API design skills.
5. Database experience (SQL/NoSQL).
6. Familiarity with cloud services and CI/CD configurations.
7. Working knowledge of Angular frontend concepts.
