Job Description
The Early Production Facilities (EPF) Laboratory Specialist Trainee position offers recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on laboratory experience within EPF projects. Under the guidance of experienced specialists and technical supervisors, the trainee will assist with laboratory testing, fluid sampling, quality control, data management, and laboratory operations. This role focuses on developing technical competency in hydrocarbon analysis, production chemistry, laboratory quality systems, and HSE practices according to SLB standards. The position includes structured learning, on-the-job training, and competency development within a diverse and inclusive work environment that upholds SLB's core values of people, technology, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in laboratory testing activities, adhering to SLB procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Support routine analysis of crude oil, gas, produced water, glycol, amine, and production chemicals using approved industry methods.
- Engage in field sampling activities, following SLB's HSE protocols.
- Implement laboratory quality control practices in line with SLB's Quality Management System and ISO standards.
- Assist with the calibration, maintenance, and checks of laboratory equipment.
- Record and manage results, reports, calibration logs, and quality documentation using SLB's digital tools.
- Help with inventory management of laboratory consumables and reagents.
- Prepare laboratory reports and technical summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Participate in audits, inspections, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance verification.
- Support laboratory commissioning, startup activities, and the implementation of new methods as needed.
- Develop expertise in hydrocarbon analysis and fluid characterization.
- Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment, contributing to safety programs and risk assessments.
- Complete structured training, achieve competency milestones, and follow development plans.
- Promote diversity, inclusion, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability within a global context.
- Contribute to SLB’s sustainability initiatives through responsible laboratory practices.
- Uphold SLB’s Code of Conduct and ethical standards in all professional activities.
Requirements
- Hold a Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Possess 0-2 years of experience, with a preference for recent graduates.
- Demonstrate a strong academic background in chemistry, laboratory science, or related subjects.
- Have basic knowledge of laboratory techniques, chemical handling, and laboratory safety.
- Prior internship, research project, or practical laboratory experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as GC, spectrophotometers, and water analysis tools is beneficial.
- Awareness of oil/gas production, hydrocarbon properties, or process fluids is desirable.
- Knowledge of quality systems and ISO standards is an advantage.
- Familiarity with digital data management and MS Office is required.
- Be analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
- Exhibit good teamwork, communication skills, and a willingness for field/lab work.
- Be willing to travel and/or relocate as required.
- Be fluent in English.
