Job Description
The Investment Dealer acts as a crucial link between investment decisions and transaction settlements. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring and implementing tactical portfolio decisions across various portfolios, ensuring that all investment instructions are processed and executed in a timely, accurate, and competitive manner. This role requires strict adherence to risk management guidelines, including those related to counterparties, placement limits, asset allocation, asset classes, portfolio Investment Policy Statements, and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the dealer is tasked with cultivating and maintaining effective counterparty relationships to optimize investment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare dealing tickets for intermediaries and ensure their accurate and timely entry into the fund management system.
- Conduct timely, accurate, and competitive dealings with placement counterparties to maximize organizational returns while effectively managing risk and tax efficiency.
- Ensure the timely settlement of trades with custody and within the Investment system.
- Negotiate and finalize investment opportunities with potential counterparties.
- Implement investment decisions made by the Investment Committee in collaboration with the investment manager.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation and recording of all trades and deals in compliance with internal procedures.
- Recommend rebalancing actions based on market developments and cash flow requirements.
- Monitor upcoming investment maturities and roll-overs, promptly informing investment managers and private wealth clients.
- Initiate and maintain strong relationships with investment counterparties, including banks, brokers, custodians, and other market participants, to facilitate efficient deal execution.
- Organize continuous and periodic review meetings with listed and unlisted institutions to support investment management decision-making.
- Coordinate meetings with potential investment issuers.
- Ensure all activities and duties fully comply with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
- Understand and effectively manage risks and risk events relevant to the role.
- Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for service providers and counterparties.
- Support the maintenance and updating of all research databases.
- Coordinate activities for the Investment Committee.
- Monitor and appraise counterparties.
Requirements
- A first degree in a relevant field such as Business Management, Commerce, or Actuarial Science.
- Must be a Chartered Investment & Financial Analyst (CIFA) certified or actively pursuing CIFA qualifications and registration.
- Professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA, CISI, CAIA, or other relevant professional qualifications in fund management are considered an added advantage.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Investment Dealing or other relevant areas.
- Demonstrated experience in using Investment Management and Research Systems.
- Strong knowledge of the Kenya financial services industry, including Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Guidelines.
- Knowledge of best practices in financial analysis, dealing, and related activities, including risk and governance frameworks.
